During the piece, we invite the audience to water shadow plants together with us. The performance includes a reading from Ollie’s children’s book (in progress).
“I have to ask for help,” it thought again. Suddenly another fly passed by. It was wearing a red hat and was moving at full speed. The fly hurried to follow the fly with the red hat and then exclaimed, “Can you help me find water for a bunch of potted plants that are being consumed by flames in a burning house?!”
The fly with the red hat turned toward the fly in surprise and replied: “How am I supposed to help you with that? I’m just a little fly with a red hat.”
The fly answered: “Well, if you help me, then there will be two of us, and everything is much easier when we are two instead of one.”
“Okay, I can help you,” said the fly with the red hat.
And so the fly and the fly with the red hat began to fly together. They flew over the rooftops of the city, searching for signs of water. The fly with the red hat gazed out over the sea and asked: “There’s plenty of water in the sea – can’t we use that?”
The fly answered: “Hmm, the water in the sea is full of salt. I’m afraid the plants can’t handle that.”
“Hmm,” said the fly with the red hat, “then we’ll have to come up with something else.”
They continued flying over the city’s rooftops.
“Let’s try flying closer to the ground and look there,” said the fly.
“Okay,” replied the fly with the red hat, and they flew down toward the city streets. There was noise and the sound of voices from the shops and the people on the streets.
The fly with the red hat was so overwhelmed by the sounds that it pulled its hat down covering its ears from the noise.
The fly asked, “What’s wrong?”
“I have such sensitive ears that I can hear every single being breathing,” replied the fly with the red hat.
“Let’s get away from the noise,” said the fly, signalling to the fly with the red hat to fly away from there. Together they flew back up toward the rooftops of the city.
“What do we do now?” asked the fly with the red hat.
“Let’s think,” replied the fly, “can you really hear every single being breathing?” the fly asked thoughtfully.
“Yes, I can hear the sound of water trickling, every being breathing, clouds moving, leaves falling from the trees, and the whoosh of your wings.”
“Wow,” the fly replied, “you have superpowers!”
